Purpose
- Scope: "My Terminology" introduction, and importing terms into it
- Intended audience: External translators
Requirements
- Transtool external version already installed.
- Version of Transtool 2.71 and 2.72
InstructionsMy Terminology (formerly custom dictionary) is a personal terminology feature which is accessed in the menu Tools→My terminology. This will open a new window.
The first time opening My termonilogy for a transtool file, an existing terminology file has to be opened or a new one created. Terminology files are saved in ".pws" format and the selected file will be remembered the next time the transtool file is opened.
See the related Guide: How to add/change/delete words in "My terminology".
In My Terminology (Tools -> Terminology files), it is also possible to export to and import from a couple of simple Excel interchange formats.
In the My Terminology "File" menu, there are two options, "Import" and "Export". Each of them lets the user choose between "Excel Unicode text" and "Excel CSV". The file formats are explained below.
Export creates a file with two columns: source term and translation. The first row contain the source and target language TB codes. Then come the terms.
Import reads a file with the above structure. Then,
- If there is a language line, it is verified with the current document's languages.
- If there is a mismatch, the file will not be imported.
- If the languages are flipped (target first, then source), the document will load and automatically flip the columns.
- If the language line is missing, then the first line is simply taken as terms.
If there is an error in a file, nothing will be imported.
Note that the "My Terminology" automatically removes duplicates, and sorts all terms.
Excel Unicode text This is the file format as exported from Excel when selecting "Unicode Text (*.txt)".
- The file is UTF-16 encoded (both big and little endian are supported).
- Columns are tab-separated.
- Rows are separated by line breaks.
- Quotes are used if a string contains a quotation mark, line break, tab, or semicolon. In quoted strings, quotation marks are doubled.
Excel CSV file This is the file format as exported from Excel when selecting "CSV (Comma delimited) (*.csv)".
- The file is ANSI encoded according to the user's local encoding.
- Columns are semicolon-separated (NOT comma-separated!).
- Rows are separated by line breaks.
- Quotes are used if a string contains a quotation mark, line break, tab, or semicolon. In quoted strings, quotation marks are doubled.
SearchingIf any term starts with the search term, it will be found/selected. Else, if any term contains the search term, it will be found/selected.
